This survey contains roughly 100 questions (depending on your responses) and typically takes about 20 minutes to finish. You will be asked about your background as well as your thoughts on a variety of subjects. Your personal information will remain confidential and will never be shared or sold to any third party. The purpose of these surveys is to gain insight into how individuals from different walks of life think and form opinions, which helps us better understand how jurors may view issues if chosen for a trial.

Meldon Law is looking for individuals across the Alachua and Marion counties who would like to participate in a focus group and give us their opinions on a broad range of issues as well as on the specifics of our cases. Meldon Law hosts focus group events online and on-site at its office location in Gainesville, Florida.
- Onsite participants receive a digital payment of $125 for their time.
- Virtual participants receive a digital payment of $30 per hour, with sessions typically lasting between 1 and 4 hours.
- Participation is a one-time commitment, though you may choose to participate again in the future after new registrants have had an opportunity.
For on-site events, food and beverages will be provided. Each participant who has completed the survey will be contacted to confirm availability for a specific date and time.
Past Participants
There is no need to resubmit the survey; previous responses have been saved.
Returning participants will be scheduled as alternates.
If all jurors are present and alternates are dismissed, alternates will still receive a $40 digital payment. If one or more jurors cannot serve, alternates may be selected and will receive the full $125 compensation.
In addition, all-day focus group events are occasionally hosted. Participants in these longer sessions receive a $200 digital payment in exchange for their time and feedback.

Where will the focus groups be held?
Focus groups are hosted both onsite and virtually. Whenever possible, in-person sessions will take place in Gainesville, Florida. Onsite sessions are held at local office facilities, while virtual opportunities are available for participants across the region. Additional locations may be added in the future as needed, and every effort will be made to seat participants at a location close to home.
How old must participants be to join a focus group?
All participants must be at least 18 years of age.
How long does the survey to participate take to complete?
The survey includes about 100 questions (depending on responses) and usually takes around 20 minutes. The questions cover your background and opinions on a variety of topics. Responses are kept strictly confidential and never sold or shared. Please only complete the survey once.
Why does the survey ask about my background and beliefs?
The information helps us understand how people with different life experiences may view legal issues. This allows the research team to better anticipate what jurors might think if selected for a trial.
How do you select participants for the focus groups?
Participants are chosen to reflect the demographics of Alachua and Marion counties, as well as to bring a wide range of perspectives. We make every effort to include first-time participants at each event.
How many times may I participate in a focus group?
Participation is considered a one-time commitment. You may serve once virtually and once in person. If you are scheduled as an alternate for an onsite group, you will receive $40 if released after jurors are seated. Should you be selected to fill in as a juror, you will receive the full $125 payment.
Why are focus groups one-time commitments?
This structure preserves the integrity of the research process. Just as jury duty is unlikely to be repeated often, focus group opportunities are designed to bring in fresh perspectives.
Will participating in a focus group increase my chances of being called for jury duty?
No. Focus group participation is completely separate from civil and criminal jury trials managed by the courts.
Can my spouse, relative, or friend attend the same focus group?
Yes, you may attend with a spouse, relative, or friend. However, to preserve independence of thought, you may be placed in different deliberation groups.
What is the dress code?
Casual and comfortable attire is encouraged. A light jacket is recommended for indoor sessions.
What should I bring to an in-person event?
Nothing is required. All materials will be provided, including notepads and pens. Refreshments will be served at every in-person session.
How will I know if I am scheduled for an event?
After you submit your availability, the focus group coordinator will confirm your participation via text message. If you do not receive a confirmation, it means the seats have been filled, and we will work to include you at a future event.
