Look Both Ways Before You Enter An Intersection

After taking our driver’s test, it is easy to forget the specific rules of the road. As an experienced Gainesville accident attorney, I’ve seen many drivers who drive out of habit and fail to remember the etiquette of the road. However, it is important to remember the correct ways to enter an intersection in order to protect ourselves and others. For specific rules see, What are the Proper Intersection Rules in Florida?

The rule of thumb and the law is that the person to the right has the right-of-way, but you should also yield to those who are already in the intersection or who ignore the rules and go anyway. To avoid turning an everyday drive into an accident, be cognizant of your surroundings. When you approach a stop sign or a yield sign, be the safe driver.

Recently, a car accident in Columbia County injured five people because the driver neglected intersection rules. My advice? Look before you enter. Even if you think you arrived at the intersection first, wait anyway. Check to make sure the other drivers are aware of you and aware that you are attempting to drive through the intersection before them. Do not trust others to stop if they are still approaching the intersection. Wait, watch, and be safe.
