Florida Boy Attacked By Dog

Dog attacks happen quite often, even though dogs are supposed to be man’s best friend. Dogs can be startled or frightened in a number of ways. Sometimes dogs are taken to strange areas and they react in negative ways.
A recent dog attack has left a 4-year-old boy with dozens of stitches. The incident happened on the morning of July 28 on Skip Jack Loop in Lakewood Ranch.
The boy was attacked by a dog in his driveway. The boy was about to get dropped off at school by his sister when their mother, who was inside their home, heard screams. She went outside and saw a large dog that she had never seen before.
The neighbor was trying to pull the dog off the boy, but he already suffered injuries. He had a wound on his lip as well as scratches on his face. His mother grabbed him and took him to the hospital. The boy received two dozen stitches on his face and is now healing.
The dog, an English bulldog, was not staying with his owner at the time. She was left with the owner’s in-laws, who live near the boy. The father-in-law was going to take the dog for a walk when it took off and attacked the boy. That was when the father-in-law heard screams and tried to grab the dog off the boy.
The dog is now in a 10-day quarantine with her owner, who lives in Myakka City. The dog is up-to-date on her rabies vaccine. The owner has been cited for a dog bite, dog at large, and dog acting aggressive. The animal control officer will follow up with citations, but no further action will be taken. This is upsetting to the boy’s mother, who would like the dog to be euthanized.
Why Do Dogs Bite?
Why would a dog bite a human? Dogs can bite for a variety of reasons, but most often because they are reacting to something. In many cases, they are stressed out and protecting their territory. They may bite to protect their puppies, toys, food, or other property.
Dogs also bite when they aren’t feeling well. Sometimes they are sick or sore and they will hide or just want to be left alone. Dogs can also bite when they are teased by people. A person who taunts or pokes a caged dog with a stick, for example, may end up upsetting the dog and getting severely bitten.
