A Lawtey Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop on a white Mercedes for traveling 58 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone. The officer made contact with the driver of the vehicle and detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The officer asked the driver to step out of the vehicle, at which time the driver admitted that there was marijuana in the vehicle. The driver removed the suspected marijuana from the vehicle as well as a pipe and rolling papers. The marijuana was field tested and tested positive for marijuana. The driver was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

The driver hired Meldon Law. The attorney at Meldon reviewed the discovery in the case and filed a motion to consolidate a civil infraction. The attorney was then able to negotiate a deferred prosecution plea offer, which ultimately led to the State dropping the charges.
