Blown Tire Cause for I-75 Accident on Paynes Prairie – Ocala Accident Attorney Gives Safety Precautions
Two Ocala women suffered serious injuries last month on I-75 just south of Gainesville when their car blew a tire and overturned.
Florida Highway Patrol reports that the two women were traveling north on the left lane at the point where I-75 crosses Paynes Prairie when the left rear tire blew out on their Isuzu Trooper. The car overturned twice before coming to s stop. The driver was wearing a seat belt and remained inside the car. The passenger, however, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car during the crash. Both women were taken to Shands at the University of Florida.
Blown tires are one of the leading causes of car accidents. A blowout occurs when a flat tire is so severely damaged that it immediately loses all air pressure and causes a driver to lose control of the car. Just about anything that severely diminishes the air pressure and prevents the tire from supporting the weight of the automobile will likely cause a blowout that could lead to a car accident. Some of the more common reasons are: potholes, large cuts in the tire that cause rapid air loss, small punctures to the tire that allow air loss slowly over time until the tire pressure fails, high speeds, and overloading the car with so much weight that the tire gives way.
In short, tire blowouts can happen at anytime, not just in the summer months. Fortunately, this type of auto accident has decreased in recent years due to advancements made in tire technology. Nevertheless, it is still important to check the air pressure in your tires regularly, not overload your vehicle, and to know how to handle your car if a tire blows while you’re driving.
