Gainesville Car Crash Leaves Three Injured, Ties Up Traffic For Hours

On Friday, February 22nd, a Gainesville car accident shut down the westbound lanes of Archer Road for approximately two hours. The car wreck occurred around 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of Gale Lemerand Drive and Archer Road. Two vehicles were involved in the crash.

Officers from the Gainesville Police Department responded to the crash to direct traffic and conduct an investigation. Spokesman Officer Ben Tobias reported that one of the vehicles involved in the accident was a white Ford Expedition, driven by Jerome L. Williams of Gainesville.

The other car involved in the collision was a red Ford Mustang, driven by Coral P. Swiger of Belleview. Her husband, Ricky Burl Swiger, also of Belleview, was a passenger in the car. All three individuals suffered injuries as a result of the crash.

According to the Gainesville Police Department accident report, Mr. Williams was travelling west on Archer Road at a high rate of speed when he rear-ended the red Mustang. The Swigers, who were travelling in the Mustang, were leaving Shands at the University of Florida when they were hit. The vehicle spun out of control and hit a tree. Both of the Swigers were taken back to Shands at the University of Florida for treatment. Mr. Williams suffered a head trauma, although none of the injuries involved in the crash were considered to be life-threatening to any of the victims.
