Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon – Dismissed the Charge (January 2024)

Marion County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a disgruntled lady indicating that her ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend had entered her home and attacked her, and her new boyfriend, with a gun. They were informed that the individual had beaten the new boyfriend with the gun, threatened the ex-girlfriend with the same gun, and had struck the ex-girlfriend with an open hand. She also alleged that the ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend fled the scene upon learning that the police were being called. There was a shell casing found in the home from a .380 caliber handgun and an alleged bullet hole exiting the front door and screened in porch. The new boyfriend indicated that he was involved in a physical altercation with the ex-boyfriend where the shot was fired. The ex-boyfriend hired Meldon Law. Initially ‘Stand Your Ground’ hearing was filed and denied by the court, so the attorneys at Meldon Law set the case for a jury trial where he was acquitted of aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and domestic battery. The State Attorney’s Office then decided to dismiss the charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
