A Columbia County Sheriff’s Deputy was patrolling the area of Bascom Norris and U.S. Highway 90 when he observed a grey pickup turn right on Bascom Norris Road with a turn signal. Once the vehicle crossed the railroad tracks, the vehicle drifted into the opposite lane of travel and stayed in the lane for approximately 100 feet.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver. While speaking with the driver, the deputy noticed an odor of alcohol and that their eyes were glassy. Another deputy arrived on the scene and asked the driver to perform field sobriety exercises. After performing three exercises, the deputies placed the driver under arrest and transported her to the Columbia County Sheriff’s office for a breath sample. The driver complied with the request and provided two breath samples of 0.102.

The driver hired Meldon Law. After reviewing the discovery, the attorney deposed the law enforcement officers. The attorney filed multiple motions in the case and also retained a defense expert regarding field sobriety exercises and BAC levels. Ultimately the attorney was able to negotiate a resolution to the reduced offense of reckless driving with alcohol.
