Two fatal motorcycle accidents: three families lose loved ones

Two fatal accidents involving motorcycles shook up two states, Florida and North Carolina, on February 21, 2009.

In North Carolina, a motorcyclist, who received numerous speeding tickets in the past and whose driver’s license was revoked at the time of the accident, was driving 120 mph when he crashed into a taxi, making a left turn. The impact of the crash was so severe that both vehicles burst into flames. Both the motorcyclist and a taxi driver were killed. The police have yet to determine who was at fault in this deadly accident.

In Florida’s Volusia County, a pickup truck, driven by a drunk driver, crossed the center lane and crashed into a motorcycle head-on. The motorcyclist, a firefighter who was also a newlywed, was killed instantly from the impact. The pickup truck continued on to crash into a store on the side of the road. Charges are pending against the pickup driver.
