Tragic School Bus Accident Kills Mother; Infant Survives

Tiffany Poupard, a 29-year-old mother, was killed when her SUV ran into the back of a fully-stopped school bus, driven by Tracey Haley in Levy County last Tuesday. According to the Ocala Star Banner,  bus driver, Haley did everything right, including lights indicating that she was stopping. The authorities do not know what caused Poupard to rear-end the bus, but assume she was distracted and did not see the stopped school bus ahead.

Poupard's infant daughter was in the back seat of the car and survived, after a bystander pulled her to safety. Florida Highway Patrol says the infant survived because she was properly strapped into her car seat, emphasizing the importance of securing children when driving.

The children on the bus were uninjured. One child getting onto the bus at the time of the crash has minor bruising on his arm from the impact.

This is the second bus tragedy in the last year. The first led Florida Highway Patrol to develop stricter measures, Operation Bluebird, when dealing with stopping rather than passing school buses that are stopped along the road.
