Teens injured in a single - vehicle crash in Levy County

On June 7, four local teens, ages 16-18, were seriously injured in a crash on a Levy County Road, when the driver of a 2000 Ford Ranger pick-up truck, attempting to avoid a ditch in the road, steered to the side and lost control of the truck. The vehicle overturned several times before landing on the passenger side.

The driver and the three passengers were not wearing the seatbelts. Two of them were ejected from the vehicle.  While all four teens were hospitalized at Shands of the University of Florida, one of the teens had to be airlifted to the hospital due to the severity of the injuries.  

The investigation is ongoing, however, Florida Highway Patrol Officer, Lt. Patrick Riordan commented, "There is a definite correlation between wearing seatbelts and injuries that are sustained when a vehicle rolls, and there is clear and convincing evidence that when seatbelts are not worn, injuries will be worse."
