O-Brien Driver Surrenders on charges of Vehicular homicide-one child dead

Nicole Marie Sallas, 25, surrendered herself to police in late May 2009 after the State Attorney issued a warrant for her arrest on charges of vehicular homicide, stemming from a fatal crash that occurred on January 10, 2009.

Killed in the single-vehicle crash in Suwannee County was 11-year old Alyssa Jones, a 5^th grade student at Branford Elementary School. The Suwannee Democrat reported that Sallas' Pontiac SUV overturned, ejecting Jones, before crashing into a nearby tree. 

Jones, a reportedly unrestrained front-seat passenger, was tragically pronounced dead on arrival.

Two other children, one 2 years old and the other an infant, were improperly restrained but luckily survived the crash with minor injuries. 

Sallas, who also reportedly failed to wear her safety belt, was treated for minor injuries and is currently being held on $10,000 bond.
