Newberry resident Karen E Trotter, 46, was seriously injured in a car accident Monday, June 8th, after striking a light pole. The crash occurred on State Road 26 in Gilchrist County about five miles east of Trenton.
According to the Gainesville Sun's Article, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) officers say that the accident was caused by Trotter. Trotter, who was driving a GMC Blazer, lost control of her vehicle after striking the rear end of a car driven by William K. Coates of Trenton.
Apparently, when Coates slowed to turn onto Southeast 70th Avenue, Trotter didn't slow down and her Blazer hit Coates' car. At this point, Trotter lost control of the Blazer and the car veered onto the road's shoulder where it struck a light pole.
Coates was not hurt by the accident, however, Trotter was seriously injured. FHP Officers were unsure whether Trotter was wearing a seatbelt.
