Micanopy Mother Charged with DUI Manslaughter of Two Children

Posted on Sep 23, 2009

On September 1, 2009, a Micanopy mother, Tiffany A. Davis, 27, was charged with two counts of DUI Manslaughter, carrying up to 30 years in prison, for the death of her two children.

Killed in the March 1, 2009, head-on crash in Marion County were Davis' children, Owen, 3, and Hailey, 9.  Davis' third child, Hunter, 9, was left paralyzed, resulting in child neglect charges from Davis' failure to properly use safety belt restraints.

Reports show Davis had cocaine, marijuana, and Oxycodone in her system at the time of the crash.

Previously charged with DUI, Davis asserts someone laced her drink, and the other driver, James D. Roberts, 31, of the United Kingdom, swerved into her lane.

Roberts was later issued a citation for failure to maintain a single lane.

In August, Davis filed a negligence action against Roberts for crossing into her lane.  Roberts explains he swerved only after Davis crossed into his lane.

A warrant has been issued for Davis with bail set at $135,000.
