MADD is Coming to Town.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) will soon open an office in the college town of Gainesville, Florida to help combat the nation's rising levels of underage drinking and drunk driving.  MADD views Gainesville, FL as an ideal site for their next expansion because it is the home one of the nation's largest public universities, the University of Florida, as well as one of the nation's largest community colleges, the Santa Fe Community College. 

Between the two schools, Gainesville offers MADD the opportunity to spread its message to over 60,000 college students.  MADD plans to support the University of Florida's mandatory "New Student Alcohol Education Program," which provides incoming students with information about the dangers of underage drinking and binge drinking.  The program includes an interactive online course at MyStudentBody.com that quizzes students on their alcohol education. 

Similarly, many other top universities require students to complete the same MyStudentBody.com alcohol education program before they are permitted to register for classes.  MADD will also team up with local state and community groups in their effort to prevent drunk driving and provide relief to those injured by accidents caused by DUIs.

MADD urges those who have been affected by DUIs to support the cause by donating their time.  Gainesville residents or organizations should contact yolanda.larson@madd.org to volunteer.
