Calling all creative teen activists-the deadline for the Northeast Florida safe driving teen video public service announcement (PSA) is April 19, 2011.
The winning PSA will target unsafe teen driving practices, like speeding, distracted driving, seatbelts, teen passengers, and texting. Grand prize winners receive $4,000 and an additional $4,000 toward their school's TV production equipment. Runner-up prizes are available for student creators and their schools, in the amounts of $2,000 and $1,000.
The teen PSA contest is sponsored by a partnership between Mothers Against Brain Injury, Inc., (MABII) and the Allstate Foundation. Both non-profits target the biggest threat to teens-their cars. Motor vehicle accidents, which are largely preventable, are the leading cause of death for U.S. teens, killing approximately 4,000 teens each year. A teen lucky enough to survive a crash may likely sustain Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), a primary cause of all reported TBI cases (17.3%).
