Two people died on March 7, 2009 in Daytona Beach area motorcycle-related accidents.
A motorcycle, which stopped at a light of a major intersection, was rear-ended by a pickup truck at 2pm. The impact was so severe that both the driver of a motorcycle and the passenger were ejected off of it. The driver did not suffer life-threatening injuries, but the passenger, a 39 year-old woman, was killed. The investigation is still underway, but it is suspected that the pickup driver was under the influence of alcohol.
At 2.30 pm, a motorcyclist lost control of his bike and was thrown off of it on the road, dying at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.
There were several accidents earlier that week. On March 6, a motorcyclist went off the road after failing to slow down at the curve. He is in a critical condition.
Aside from the fatal crashes on March 7, there were also five fatal bike-related accidents earlier in the week, bringing the number of deaths during the Daytona Beach Biker Week to seven.
