  • Infection: Infections can occur at the site where the incision or cut was made for the surgery as well as inside the deep tissue surrounding the new hip.
  • Fracture: Because hip replacement is a complicated procedure, healthy portions of the hip may fracture. Larger fractures are repaired with wires, cables, or bone grafts.
  • Dislocation: Moving in certain positions may cause the ball of the new joint to become dislodged from its socket. Continuous dislodging often requires another surgery to stabilize the ball and socket.
  • Loosening: The new joint may not become completely fixed to the bone or it may loosen over time and bring pain to the area. A second surgery is often needed to solve the problem.
  • Artificial Hip Breaks: A second surgery is needed to replace the broken joint.
  • Change In Leg Length: A hip replacement may cause one leg to be longer or shorter than the other.
  • Joint Stiffening: The soft tissues surrounding the replaced hip may harden over time, making it difficult to move the hip.
