Who can be held liable/responsible in a slip and fall accident in Florida?

A: There can be numerous people responsible, or held liable, for an injury that resulted from negligence in a place of business (including airports and airlines, shopping malls),  and public places, or private homes.

  • In a commercial setting or retail store: both the property owner and the tenant can be held responsible, as well as a management or maintenance company.  Employees can also be held responsible.
  • In a residential setting both the owner or landlord and the tenant can be held liable.
  • In public areas owned by the local, state or governmental groups, special rules apply and may be shielded from liability.
