What is the latest news on wearing a seat belt in Alachua County? Can I be pulled over for not wearing a seat belt and if so, what is the fine?

As of June 30th, 2009, a new law will go into effect which will allow police officers to pull over Alachua County drivers and all drivers in Florida for not wearing a seat belt, now making it a primary offense.

This means that yes, you can be pulled over just for not wearing a seat belt. The change in the law only refers to drivers and adult front seat passengers.

There are a few exceptions to this law - if you are on duty as a newspaper deliveryman, a waste management worker, a passenger in a bus, or the operator of a large truck or tractor.

The fine is still $30 for the nonmoving violation.

My advice; buckle up and heads up to this news.
