Q: What can I do to help make my teen child a more responsible Gainesville driver?
A:
This is an important topic in light of the recent AAA report showing that teens are more likely to cause a fatality on the road than to be killed. Being a good role model, talking to your teen, developing trust but also imposing driving rules are some of the ways you can help your teen to be a better driver and stay safe on the road in Gainesville and all of Flordia. Here are some safety ideas to help your teen be a safer driver: For some more tips you can read my article, Teach your children well:
*Make sure that you yourself follow the traffic safety rules by always wearing a seatbelt and not using a cell phone in the car.
*Educate your teen about the repercussions that traffic offenses can have on the cost of car insurance and future employment opportunities if the teen has a serious traffic offense on his or her record.
*Impose certain restrictions, such as prohibiting the teen's driving at night or limiting driving to certain number of hours each day.
*Make sure your teen knows, however, that you would rather have them call you anytime and pick them up than drive home unsafely.
*Have a constant dialogue with your teen!
