A:
As a personal injury attorney, I recommend getting immediate medical attention for any injury after an accident. Why? First, to heal and "return" to healthful functioning. Second, for documentation purposes.
If an injured person makes a claim to their insurance company or from a third party for the cost of past or future treatment, lost wages, pain and suffering, or other damages, injuries must be documented by a medical doctor. As strange as it sounds, if it's not in your medical record, then it's almost like "it didn't happen." Even if pain does not occur for a few hours or days after the crash, impact, or fall, go to the doctor as soon as possible for pro-active evaluation.
In addition, often a person does not seek medical attention after an accident because they think the injury is minor and will go away on its own in time. However, many of these people come to regret their decision down the road as sometimes seemingly minor injuries can become serious and necessitate medical treatment or surgery.
