How can traumatic brain injuries be prevented?

As a car accident attorney that has seen the seriousness of brain injuries and the long term disabilities caused by them, I can say that this is a good question and a very important topic to address.

The number one cause of Traumatic Brain Injuries or TBI is motor vehicle crashes, and since a person can never totally eliminate their risk of being in a serious accident on the road, what they can do is to minimize the risk of causing an accident and the impact an accident could have on their head and their brain within.

Here are the basics to the prevention of TBI:

Wear your seatbelt every time you get on the road and make sure everyone else in your car does as well.
Make sure babies and young children are always restrained in age appropriate car safety seat restraints and make sure it is installed correctly.
Do not drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Do not drive distracted, but rather keep both hands on the wheel, both eyes on the road and give your full attention to your driving and to the road.
Wear appropriate protective head gear, a helmet, when riding a motorcycle, bicycle, scooter, moped, ATV, etc.

Safe driving: buckle up and pay attention to the road.
