Taking preventative steps before an attack happens is the best way to protect yourself and your dog. Here are some things that I have learned over the years as an experienced dog bite attorney in Gainesville, that may help you avoid potentially deadly attacks:

  • invest in obedience training when the dog is young;
  • avoid contact with unfamiliar dogs;
  • teach children not to approach dogs, hug them around their necks, or touch them while eating;
  • post a "Bad Dog" sign clearly and prominently in your yard, on your fence, or at your door;
  • Maintain homeowner's or renter's insurance that specifically covers dog bites;
  • Use a muzzle if there is any indication of aggression;
  • Always keep your dog under control and on a leash. It's the law!
