Several Recent Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Ocala Raise Concern About Pedestrian Safety on Day One of the New School Year; Here is Why:

Recent fatal accidents raise concerns about pedestrians not being cautious when crossing the road. As schools start off their new school year today all over Alachua County, as an accident attorney, I would like to say to all pedestrians - please, be safe!  Here is why:

Accidents involving a person on-foot and a vehicle are often fatal and can cause serious injury.  In fact, pedestrian accidents are one of the most fatal types of accidents along with head-on collisions, roll-over accidents and bicycle accidents.

According to the National Safety Commission, Florida has the 2nd highest pedestrian fatality rate for our population in the country, behind DC and above New Mexico.  Nationwide, pedestrian fatalities make up 11% of all traffic fatalities, with approximately 4,600 pedestrian deaths and 70,000 injuries per year.

With this in mind, I wrote an article explaining the pedestrian rules of the road that might save your life or prevent you from suffering serious injuries, please see: Rules of the Road for Pedestrians in Florida; What Every Walker Should Know To Be Safe and Legal.

Have a great new school year and walk safely!
