News: Reduction in 2010 Florida Fatalities at 22%!

The decline in Florida's motorist fatalities appears larger than initially anticipated.

Exceeding initial estimates, Florida traffic fatalities fell by 22% from 2008 (2,728) to 2010 (2,128), while motorist deaths decreased 10% from 2009 (2,363) to 2010 (2,128). 

The National Safety Council (NSC) recently released statistics from the first 11 months of 2010, noting the nationwide average of traffic fatalities fell by 4%.

Previously, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle (DHSMV) reported Florida fatalities dropped by 14% from 2008 to 2009, following the national trend. Now, it appears deaths are down by almost 25% since 2008.   

While the NSC doesn't explain the reduction in traffic deaths, the DHSMV previously cited the poor economy and institution of Florida's primary seat belt law in June 2009. 

Whatever the reasons, as an Ocala and Gainesville accident attorney, I say, "drive safe Florida!"
