Heads up - The most violated street sign!

The National Safety Commission (NSC) reports the most violated traffic signal is-the speed limit.  That's right, not the big red "stop" sign or even the yellow "yield."

Have you ever blamed the traffic cop for pulling you over?  It's easy to do.  Maybe you thought you were safe-only going 5 miles per hour over the speed limit.

As an experienced Alachua County accident attorney, I see plenty of crashes in which drivers fail to obey basic traffic signals and exceed the speed limit.  Following basic road rules could save your life-or the life of another.

Many drivers who receive speeding citations blame several factors: too few posted speed limit signs, trees or shrubbery blocking their view, or even the cop.  Whatever a driver blames, speeding claims lives on our nation's streets, highways, and roads.

The NSC reports that in 2008, there were 11,000 speeding-related fatalities nationwide. Speeding was a factor in 31% of all fatal crashes.  

In 2007, approximately 14% of fatal crashes in Florida involved drivers that exceeded the safe or stated speed limit.

Even if you exceed the speed limit by 1 mph, you are speeding.  If you receive a speeding citation, you will likely receive a fine, may need to attend a Driver Improvement Course, and may receive points on your driver's license.

In memory of the recent tragic accident in Alachua County that killed three, apparently due to speeding,   I remind you, Please, be safe - follow the posted speed limit... it could save your life and those of loved ones.
