#1: Interstate 95 in Florida is consistently named one of the deadliest roads year after year. Each year hundreds and hundreds of people die on this road in Florida. I-95 has one of the worst rates of deaths per mile in the country, according to the Florida State Department of Transportation. This stretch of 95 in Florida has the highest rate of fatalities in the country. Accidents are greater here because of the high volume of vehicles traveling the road and the distractions people encounter while driving on 95. Florida’s constant rain and weather conditions also contributes to the many fatal accidents.
#3: Interstate 4 in Florida is consistently in the top five for deadliest roads in the country. Dense fog and heavy traffic contribute to a significant number of fatalities on Interstate 4. In early 2008, there was a 75 car pile-up on I-4 that resulted in four fatalities and 38 injured people. The pile-up was caused by fog and smoke from a controlled forest fire. The interstate is constantly clogged with tourists, commuters, and drivers from around the state, country, and world.
#15: Interstate 75 in Florida is also known for its dense fog. In 2012 a pile-up on I-75 near Gainesville was caused by fog that claimed 10 lives and injured 20 more people. Florida has a large amount of rainfall each year, making it a large contributing factor to accidents on interstates like I-75.
#57: Interstate 10 in Florida is dangerous for many of the same reasons as the other interstates in Florida. I-10 stretches from Florida all the way across the country to California.
