Buckle up: Odds are it just might save your life.
We reported about a head-on collision that killed one person recently near Ocala and sent two to the hospital. One startling fact that from this news item that should stand out to any safety-minded motorist: the motorists who survived the accident had buckled up, while the motorist who died had not.
Would the outcome have been different if all had been buckled up? We will never know. We extend our deepest sympathy to the family of the victim, and on the day before seat belt use becomes a primary offense in Florida, and as an accident attorney that has often bloged about the importance of safety belt use, I would like to once again, encourage everyone to buckle up.
According to a report by James Madison University, the simple fact is that 60% to 70% of people who died in car accidents could have been saved had they buckled up.
The numbers don't lie: not wearing a safety belt is a losing bet in an auto accident. The next time you take to the road, please take care to buckle up, odds are on your favor, it just might save your life.
